Death Nova (espeically without minions) is pretty useless in PvP as there's not loads of deaths and people are usually spaced out. I'm also not too convinced by Putrid Explosion, for similair reasons. If you are going to use corpse spells then support spells like Well Of Blood / Power are more handy, IMO as they last for a while (Monks, in particular, like Bood Is Power or Blood Ritual). Strip Enchantment can also be useful in a support role. If you want to be more aggresive than Shadow Strike can deal a lot of pure damage, but is expensive.
I'd also definitely include Plague Touch or Plague Signet as this is real handy for transfering conditions from yourself to enemies. It's great to watch as warriors use Sever Artery and Gash on you only to get it back on themselves

Depends on where you want to do ur pvping. The necros usually focus on Death/Curses and soul reaping. Putting pts into all will give problems.
For a spiteful spirit build, i suggest u get a mesmer secondary and bring in arcane echo. Mix with suffering and u've got an aoe damage dealer that requires people to just stop doing everything that they were doing. (Think IWAY )
Putrid rocks in tombs btw.

I concurr!! Is it me or is hardly anyone using Spiteful Spirit? Awesome skill...
However, if you want to go the Death Nova path, go N/Mo and bring Vengence. as soon as you bring them back, cast Death Nova on them and 30 secs later they drop and it goes off. Better warn your team mates about this first though! Some might get upset!

The Vengance with Death Nova is nice because if they strip the "enchantment" or remove it they will do the death nova bomb early... but yes check with your teammates before you start using vengance - not so popular for the unkowning ally that has it used on em.

How does that work? Wouldn't the death nova get removed before the vengeance?

I would stay away from death magic in 4v4, unless you want to do a "minion bomber" build, or do blood/death with Dark Aura and dark pact/touch of agony. Corpses are too thin and people too spread out in 4v4 for things like Putrid Explosion or offensive wells to work well.
Curses is great in random arena for the anti-warrior stuff, especially Faintheartedness and Enfeeble.

Personally, I think that Blood Magic goes well with the Random Arenas. Its helpful if you dont have a Monk in your team, because you can kinda heal yourself if you go heavy on the Vampiric skills.
Basic layout:
16 in Blood, anything else if you want to change around the skills, maybe chuck some in Curses to use Rigor Mortis to stop Prot Spirit.
Awaken the Blood [to get your Blood Magic to 18]
Shadow Strike
Vampiric Gaze
Barbed Signet
Vampiric Touch
Unholy Feast
Offering of Blood [E]
Ressurection Sig.
Basically, cast the skills in that order, and you should be doing a heap of damage to your target, if your team follows calls. I've been throwing around different skills to get the maxium out of Blood Magic, and this build does pretty well in PvP.

Go N/Me, drop death nova and replace it with arcane echo. Echo spiteful spirit and always remember to put life siphon on top of spiteful spirit as soon as you can.

I went minion bomber myself with my n/e using ice to slow down my bomb targets...
minions don't do squat unless you have like 10 of them and with the limited number of bodies in pvp, nuking the minion using Taste of Death Nova combo is feasible...
In GvG, where npc corpses pile up like a genocide, going minions is a good thing...

Ha ha ha.... yeah, that kinda kills that idea.
Doh, this is what happens when you work to much and can't spend as much time in GW.
